Biographical Note

Matthew Leeper was Indian Agent at the Wichita Agency, responsible for overseeing Confederate relations with Native Americans to the west of Arkansas. Leeper's life ended in tumult after being subpoenaed by the Confederacy and ultimately killed in the Tonkawa massacre in 1862.
