Correspondence between the Hon. F. H. Elmore, one of the South Carolina delegation in Congress, and James G. Birney, one of the secretaries of the American Anti-slavery Society. Published correspondence, dated New York and Washington, Dec. 4, 1837...May 24, 1838; Publication headed: Human Rights, Extra, Remarks in Explanation. Across the top of front page is handwritten notation: Please read without prejudice and circulate. A letter from Gov. J. S. Conway of Arkansas is included with letters from governors of several states complicit in the institution of slavery who declined to accept complimentary copies of a periodical publication of the American Anti-slavery Society.
