Scope and Content Note

Letters and other documents pertaining to the McCollom and Clark families of Indiana, Illinois, Kansas, Texas, and Arkansas, especially as regards the personal, domestic, familial, religious, business, and other affairs, 1862-1893, of Robert McCollom, his wife Sephronia Clark McCollom, and his son Ransom Clark McCollom, of Washington County, Arkansas; and to the military affairs of his son Albert O. McCollom, a private soldier in Co. E, 1st Arkansas Cavalry, Confederate States Army from 1861 until his death in 1864.

Biographical Note

Robert McCollom came to Arkansas from New England, accompanied by his wife, Sephronia Clark McCollom, and his sons William, Albert O., and Ransom Clark McCollom, the latter named for his mother's brother, a school teacher in New Goshen, Indiana. Arriving first in Boone County, Robert and his family subsequently removed to Washington County, where he had been granted 40 acres of bounty land for his service as a private in the Black Hawk War. Settling in the vicinity of Cato Springs, three miles south of Fayetteville, he engaged in the business of nurseryman and orchardist.

The Robert McCollom Family Papers were donated to the Special Collections Department by Mr. C. W. Stewart of Fayetteville, Ark. on Jan. 23, 1967.
