Biographical Note

Francis W. Schruben (1918-2005) was a U.S. historian and teacher. He was the author of works including Kansas in Turmoil, 1930-1936 (University of Missouri Press, 1969) and Wea Creek to El Dorado: Oil in Kansas, 1860-1920 (University of Missouri Press, 1972), and taught U. S. history at institutions including the University of California, Los Angeles.

John Calvin Rooks (1837-1862) was a private in Company I, 11th Kansas Infantry of the Union Army, who died after being wounded at the Battle of Prairie Grove in Prairie Grove, Arkansas.
