The John Shirley Wood "Memoirs and Reflections" were donated by the Wood family heirs through Ernest (Ernie) Deane in March 1973. They were copied from an original typescript of the memoirs that is in the John Shirley Wood Papers, Syracuse University Library, NUCMC MS69-1843.

John Shirley Wood (1888-1966) was a University of Arkansas graduate (1907) who was a professional soldier from 1909 until his retirement from the U. S. Army with the rank of major general in 1947. He was war-time commander of the 4th Armored Division (1942-1944), and later field director of the Intergovernmental Committee for Refugees (1946-1947), chief of the Austrian mission of the International Refugee Organization (1947-1952), an official of the United Nations Korean Reconstruction Agency (1952-1954), and Nevada state Civil Defense Director (1957).
Scope and Content Note
Facsimile of unpublished memoirs of John Shirley Wood, covering approximately 1894-1966, including his service in the U. S. Army and in U. S. and international governmental posts. Original typescript of the memoirs is in the John Shirley Wood Papers, Syracuse University Library, NUCMC MS69-1843. 1 volume, 94 pages.
