Frances Snedecor Vestal Scrapbooks

University of Arkansas, 1952-1956

Manuscript collection MC 1362

Illustration: Sample item from Volume 3.

Three scrapbooks documenting her undergraduate career from 1952 to 1956 at the University of Arkansas were donated to Special Collections by Frances Snedecor Vestal in April 1997. The contents range from letters welcoming her as a freshman to a copy of the commencement program for January of 1956, when she received the degree of Bachelor of Arts. Included are print materials describing the University, its programs, buildings, and student activities; souvenirs of student social and athletic events; grade reports; and the remains of flowers Ms Snedecor received.

The scrapbooks also include clippings of many newspaper stories of society events in Fort Smith, Little Rock, and elsewhere, such as engagements, weddings, and sorority functions, particlularly those of Chi Omega, of which Ms Snedecor was a member and which she served as chapter president at Arkansas.

Processed by Ethel C. Simpson, April 1997. Special Collections Division, University of Arkansas Libraries, Fayetteville, Arkansas.
