Fine Arts Library: Michael Peven
Michael Peven was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois where he attended the University of Illinois, Chicago for a AB in Design, and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago for an MFA in Photography/ Artist's Books. He has been employed at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, since 1977 where he directs the photography program and is a Professor of Art.
He works in a wide variety of photographic and photo-related media in the production of his works and has recently been involved with projects in computer assisted environment specific installations and limited edition artist's bookworks. Peven's work has been exhibited in over 40 one-person and more than hundred group exhibitions since 1975. He has received fellowships, awards and grants for his creative works in photography and artist's books from the Mid-America Arts Alliance/NEA, the Arkansas Arts Council, Kodak and the JW Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas.
His works are in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Museum of Modern Art, NYC, the Center for Creative Photography in Tucson, the Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center, the International Center of Photography and the International Museum of Photography at Eastman House.
Peven's digital photograph "Crazy Horse Monument, Custer, S.D. 2003" measuring 44" x 57" is currently on display in the Fine Arts Library.
