MoO2(2,6-dicarboxypyridine)(hexamethylphosphoramide) can be reduced electrochem. in nonaq. media and aq. media at 0.10 V vs. ferrocene and -0.99 V vs. RHE, resp. Addn. of protons in nonaq. media results in milder onset potentials for redns. on glassy carbon, platinum, and gold electrodes. Furthermore, addn. of protons in nonaq. media results in significantly greater currents of redn. by a factor of at least three. NMR studies show a slow equil. between the molybdenum complex and the purportedly protonated species.
