Microbial contamination often leads to delayed or improper wound healing. With antimicrobial drug resistance on the rise, the development of novel strategies to combat this is of immediate priority. The emergence of nanotechnol. has lead to great improvements in the biomaterials field with unique properties and fabrication techniques. Our approach employs alginate as a nanomaterial designed as a multi-functional drug delivery tissue scaffold. Preliminary studies have shown desirable anti-fungal properties with ongoing investigations evaluating cytotoxicity and broad spectrum potential.
