Study of the Synthesis and Chemistry of Transition Metal Complexed 5-Membered Ring Analogs of Ortho-Quinone Methide

by Loeschel, Christian M.; Neal, Steven; Allison, Neil T.

Ortho-quinone methides 1 are thought to be key reactive moieties present in some antitumor and anticancer drugs. In an effort to control reactivity, transition metal complexed analogs of quinone methides have been studied. Thus our research has recently focused on the chem. of iron and manganese complexes of the benzannulated 5-membered analogs of ortho-quinone methide shown below. We will thus report on the prepn. and chem. of iron complex 1, and manganese complex 2 and their chem.
