MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry of intact bacteria

A review on the improvement of a whole-cell matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization (MALDI) time-of-flight (TOF) mass spectrometry (MS) for the anal. of intact bacteria. MALDI MS of cellular exts., taxonomical mass spectra from isolate to whole cell MALDI, and anal. of mixts. are discussed. The advantages, disadvantages and description of the technique are included. It was concluded that method can be clearly used for rapid screening.
