Probing galactonoamidine scaffolds toward potent glycosidase inhibition

by Striegler, Susanne

Glycosidases are ubiquitous enzymes in nature that play key roles in various biol. processes. Their importance is further documented by the use of glycosidase inhibitors in the treatment of metabolic disorders or viral infections. Here, we discuss our synthetic and spectroscopic efforts to develop potent glycosidase inhibitors based on galactonoamidine scaffolds. The designed inhibitors display multivalency in active sites of different ß-galactosidases and are characterized by nano- and picomolar inhibition ability.
