The biradical 1,3-benzene-bis(1,2,3,5-dithiadiazolyl) [1,3-S] forms a mixed valence salt [1,3-S]2[Cl]3 by controlled oxidation with chlorine. The structure of this salt contains a dimeric radical cation [CN2S2](2)(+), the first example of this unit in dithiadiazolyl chemistry. Variable temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements indicate a strongly antiferromagnetically coupled system.
