KUAF 91.3: 30 Years as National Public Radio Affiliate
The University Libraries and Special Collections join KUAF in celebrating 30 years on the air as a public radio station in this exhibit of artifacts from the decades of broadcasting and archival photographs and documents.
KUAF's mission is to be a broadcast leader serving it's listening area with programs that challenge, entertain, educate and inform. KUAF began as a 10-watt student radio station in 1973. In 1985, KUAF was re-born as a professional public radio station, featuring both local and national programming.
The station has grown from operating out of a run-down old house to a University-owned apartment complex and finally to a state-of-the-art building designed especially for KUAF. KUAF now transmits in 100,000 watts to 14 counties in parts of Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Missouri. The potential audience of over 600,000 people tune in regularly for music, NPR news, local news, and much loved shows, such as Prairie Home Companion, All Things Considered, Car Talk, and Ozarks at Large. All materials unless otherwise stated were provided by KUAF.
3-D artifacts in the exhibit have been loaned to the University Libraries to help tell the story of their thirty years of service to the University and region. Print materials and photographs from scrapbooks, program guides, and other documents are a preview of a new KUAF archives coming to Special Collections.
