Reproductions
Special Collections supports the research, teaching, and learning mission of the University of Arkansas by collecting, preserving, and providing access to unique and rare materials.
As an aid to researchers, Special Collections allows researchers to create and request reproductions for their personal use as well as publication. Donor-imposed restrictions and processing status may limit the availability of reproductions. Researchers agree to abide by any and all restrictions as communicated by staff when materials are requested for use.
All researchers requesting staff-created reproductions must have a Special Collections account. Register for an account in Aeon, our online system.
Photography
Researchers are welcome to use their own cameras, cell phones, or tablets to take photographs with no flash on materials to facilitate research. In the absence of donor-imposed restrictions, there is no limit on the number of photographs researchers may make in the reading room. Please do not photograph other researchers.
Patron-Accessible Scanner
Special Collections provides access to an overhead scanner for patrons to use free of charge to make research-quality scans of collection material. Researchers must follow policies and procedures governing use of the scanner.
Personal Scanning Devices
Special Collections does not permit the use of personal scanners or viewing devices (e.g., slide viewers, negative viewers, etc.) in the reading room. Unless directed otherwise by Special Collections staff, researchers are welcome to take photos using their personal mobile devices or cameras with no flash on materials or the overhead KIC scanner made available to researchers in the reading room.

Access Copy PDF
To facilitate distance research, Special Collections provides a limited number of access copy scans for a fee to patrons unable to visit the reading room. Please see our complete Duplication Fees and Policies for further information about this service.
High Resolution Scans
Special Collections provides high resolution scans, suitable for publication, for a fee. Please see our complete Duplication Fees and Policies for further information about this service. Researchers are responsible for submitting a Notification of Intention to Publish form, determining copyright status of materials intended for publication, and securing applicable rights and permissions prior to publication.
Notice: Warning Concerning Copyright Restrictions
The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, U.S. Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research." If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use" that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order, if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
